Intermediate Intensive for West Coast Swing on Aug 5, 2023 with Erik Novoa in Norwalk, CT

Two-Week Intermediate Intensive and Spotlight Critique

Monday, May 6 & 20, 2024
7:30-10:00pm
Norwalk, CT

This intermediate intensive is designed for students who are familiar with the basic patterns of West Coast Swing and want to add more content to their dancing. The focus of this intensive is to expand dancers' vocabulary as quickly as possible to help them feel more comfortable in intermediate-level social dances and classes. After this intensive, leaders will be able to select their favorite moves and work on everything in-between; followers will be exposed to and recognize moves that are frequently led on the social dance floor. It is critical that developing West Coast Swing dancers attend this intensive.

Schedule:

7:30pm: Intermediate Intensive

May 6:

Dip/Drops: This segment will focus on dips/drops that are done in the Intermediate-and-up divisions. These movements are critical to hitting breaks and creating level-based drama.

Suspended Timing Footwork: This segment will focus on creating a more dynamic look to your basic movement by creating suspension and acceleration.

May 20:

Looking Advanced without Using Basics: This segment will be about removing the basics from your dance to make it look more advanced. This strategy is being used more and more by Advanced and All-Star-level dancers.

Breaking the 4th Wall: Explore some moves that create a connection with the audience/observer.

8:30pm: Practice Dancing

Practice the new moves and movements that you've learned so that they become part of your dancing.

8:45pm: Spotlight Critique

It's time to get some real feedback. This class is about watching each other dance, highlighting positive attributes, and making suggestions for improvements. This type of work will help you improve your confidence for social dancing and especially for competitive dancing.

9:45pm: Practice Dancing

Continue practicing the new information that you've learned so that it becomes part of your dancing.
