Adv. Beginner Intensive for West Coast Swing
with Erik Novoa

Saturday, September 14, 2024
1:00-5:00pm
Norwalk, CT

This Adv. Beginner Intensive is designed for students who are familiar with the basic patterns of West Coast Swing from our Beginner class and want to add more content to their dancing. The focus of this intensive is to expand dancers' vocabulary during months when the Intermediate class is doing choreography and more challenging movement. This intensive will help beginner West Coast Swing dancers develop more skills to improve their social dancing and prepare them for the intermediate class. After this intensive, leaders will have new moves and followers will be exposed to and recognize moves that are frequently led on the social dance floor. It is critical that developing West Coast Swing dancers attend this intensive.

It is strongly encouraged to register in coordination with a partner to keep our ratios close to even.

Health Policy

We strive to balance providing a safe environment while returning to a normal social setting. The following policy is subject to change at any time in the event of new guidance issued by the CDC, state, or local governments. By attending any of our classes/privates/events, you agree to this health policy. Effective January 1, 2024:

  • Common Sense Health: 1) If you are not feeling well, please do not come to dance class. 2) If you've been in a high-density environment (plane, wedding, conference), it would be appreciated if you took a home-COVID test before your class.

  • Health Cooperation: Students will cooperate with any health requests from Erik Novoa, guest instructor, or staff (e.g., using hand sanitizer, using a mask, stepping outside to address a health issue, etc.).

  • Registration: You must pre-register for these classes (see below). We will not be touching credit cards or cash for these classes.

Schedule:

1:00-4:30pm: Adv. Beginner Intensive

This workshop intensive will be segmented into multiple segments (with short breaks in between each part):

Part 1

Starter Steps: This session will review the basic starter step—an essential aspect to almost every dance.

Spinning Side Passes: In this session, we will explore how to add spins to left-side and right-side passes.

Part 2

Whips: In this session, we will explore the whip with an underarm outro and reverse whips.

Roll-In, Roll-Outs: This advanced move is being used more-and-more frequently and is a great way to expand the length of the slot.

Part 3

Leader Triple-Step Turns: These turns can make any partnership look more exciting.

Rotating Anchors: These rotating anchors create interesting directional changes to almost any closed-position pattern.

4:30-5:00pm: Practice Time

Feel free to dance and practice while we prepare to depart.

5:00pm - Class Night Out

All attendees are invited to join us for dinner at a local restaurant (and maybe going to a local dance). This is a separate cost.
