Dear Dancers,

2010 Begins & our 4 year Anniversary

For the end of 2009, a group of us went to New Year's Dancin' Eve in Burlington, MA.
Congratulations to everyone who danced so well in their Jack & Jills: Janet Bergamo, Jane Veneruso, Mark Hennessy (finals), Erin Santa (finals), Charity Miller (finals), Anna Brady (finals) and me (3rd place All-Stars).

This week is the 4 year official Anniversary of when we first started doing WCS/Hustle Classes in the CT area.  Some of you have known me since my first class, some of you have just joined our group.  We re-invite everyone to dance with us this Thursday to celebrate the Anniversary.

By the way, there have been numerous articles written about our group lately - Please feel free to use the Gift Certificate link (below) to encourage a new person to attend.  And let anyone know that the recently unemployed are free to the weekly classes.  YOU are the ones that make our group successful.

Happy New Year,
Erik

Bruce and Megan show how fun West Coast Swing can be....and this was just during the class on Thurs, Dec 17.  Thanks to Mark for the pictures.

Come join us or tell your friends.  January 2010 is going to be off the charts.

Hustle is the most dynamic dance of the dance-family.  Tuesday Hustle on Dec 8, 2009 is still representing this fierce dance.  It's a great dance to have fun, get in shape and meet a bunch of new people.

Special thanks to Mark, who took some pictures on Thurs, Dec 3, when John Festa DJ'd our West Coast Swing night.

There were a lot of new faces at the Platinum Party on Fri, Nov 20 in New York City.  Learning West Coast Swing & Hustle can introduce you to a lot of people all at once.

Swingin' New England was awesome.  As a group, we did the best that we ever have. Placements in Newcomer, Novice, Intermediate and Allstar!

There were about 100 people for the day of Dance (NC2, Hustle, Lindy Hop & West Coast Swing) in Thomaston, CT.  Eran Troy Danner & the Band rocked.  Our very own Ron MacCarthy did a great job hosting the event.

We had about 30 people in the beginner West Coast Swing class on Nov 5.  It's the best West Coast Swing night in southern, CT because of all the cool people and the friends they bring.  You can still join us on Week 2.

New Year's Resolutions

Yours:

a) Get in Shape
Dance is an excellent way to exercise your body and increase your overall fitness.  And it makes you feel good (endorphins).

b) Challenge your brain
Dance makes you have to coordinate both sides of your body and brain.  At first it's challenging but after a few attempts you get it, and it makes you feel good (dopamine).

c) Increase your social circles
Dancing is a quick and easy way to meet many people from all walks of life.  It expands your social horizons in a friendly atmosphere.

Mine:

1) Start class on time
Yup, it's gonna happen!  In general, I like to accommodate everyone's busy schedule - but the tardy habits of the "few" are pissing off early mornings of the "whole".  Please don't show up late - cause I'm starting on time.

2) Work out 2-3 times a week
Dancing isn't quite enough for me.  There's still nothing like doing some curls, pushups and jogging.

3) Go to bed earlier
Part of being a rock star is being able to go to bed at 3 or 4am.  But if I want to function in the normal world, it's healthier to go to bed at a more reasonable hour.

Private Dance Lessons

Always wanted that one-on-one attention?  Perhaps you know someone who is too shy to to try a group class for their first time dancing.  Or, perhaps your spouse or significant other wants to give it a try.

Try Dance Workshops
Sat, Jan 16

If you've ever wanted to try Night Club Two Step, West Coast Swing or Hustle, now your can.  You can even recommend it to your non-dancing friends.  We start with an easier dance like Night Club Two Step and graduate to more challenging partner dances.  We'll kick off the year with this.

Day of Dance

Ballet/Tap/Jazz trifecta.  Take all three or explore just one.  Ballet makes the body stronger (no tights required) - we'll just give you good leg and arms lines (just as important for leaders as for followers).  Tap gives you rhythm and makes your body work with your brain.  Jazz gives you creative options.  All three forms give you a great foundation for all partner dancers.

"Starter Kit" Hustle & WCS
in the Surrounding Area

It's time to get everyone dancing.  I will be hosting "Starter Kit" Hustle/WCSwing nights in local areas to give people a chance to start dancing in their back yard.  It's the perfect way to get started on a journey that can last a lifetime.

Competitive Crew

We're going to get a group together of our competitive dancers - those who aspire to compete in Jack & Jills or more in WCS or Hustle.  This focus group will work on dips, drops and competitive movements.  The expectation of this group is to place top-5 in all local dance events in 2010.

Routine Team

Time to review all the routines we learned in 2009.  We're going to get them ready to show at some of the events in 2010.  This will be open to all people who can handle the choreography that we did in the advanced class.

Spins & Turns

Learning spin or turn definitely increases your level instantly.  Women who can turn are generally the most sought after followers and men who can turn are usually the guys who get all the attention...the good type.
This is an essential class for anyone interested in WCSwing or Hustle.

Technique

The devil (I mean beauty) is in the details.  What separates the average dancer from the impressive dancer? It's either their musicality or their technique.  The technique workshops will be used to supplement the weekly classes by filling in the details.  Good technique make your dance more efficient, easier, and sets you up to try even more challenging movements.

Musicality

The secret to the Universe probably lies within music.  It is impossible to consider yourself a respectable dancer if you don't have a basic knowledge of music.  The Musicality for WCS classes will guide you through the amazing journey of basic understanding of music and how it makes WCSwing the one of the most amazing dances.

Dance Events

Time to travel.  Going to my first dance event changed my life.  It was literally like finding "Paradise Lost".  Hundreds of people dancing and all of them very friendly...that was over 10 years ago, when I went alone to Atlanta, GA for my first event.  I'd like to get a group of people together to have a good time and dance their booties off for a weekend...at an event.

Student-Teacher Program
Completed

It's time raise the roof!  I'm going to be training some of our core staff to help teach.  This is going to lead to FREE beginner days, where student instructors can guide some newcomers in a welcoming way.   I'm excited to see how they share their love for dance with others.
