It's time to join the West Coast Swing craze!!  This dance is even more popular now that the most recent champion of "So You Think You Can Dance" is a renowned WC Swing dancer.  Now is YOUR chance to try this fun dance.  WCSwing is one of the most versatile forms of partner dancing.

Originally done to blues and slow swing music, it can also be done to almost anything being played on the radio.  It's the perfect dance for a holiday party or just for a night on the town.  Come out and start your journey on Saturday, July 14.  Already know the basics?...Challenge yourself with the Musicality and "Picturesque Moves" workshops.  The night will rock out with a fun party for you to play with all your new steps.

The Schedule:
3:00pm - 4:00pm Hustle - Beginner I
This is a basic class introducing the fundamentals of Hustle and some of the basic patterns and theory of movement.   It is perfect for the "day one" beginner.

4:00pm - 5:00pm West Coast Swing - Beginner II
We continue building on the basic fundamentals and add some more beginner moves.  Plenty of focus on Tucks, Whips and Baskets.  Perfect to review basics or for people who feel comfortable with the basics.

Requirements: This is the class for people who already know their WCS basics (Push Break, Right Pass & Left Pass).

5:00pm - 6:00pm Pizza Party for Pre-Registrants
Our way of keeping you happy.  We will only order food based upon persons who have pre-registered.

6:00pm - 7:00pm WCS (int) - Syncopations
If you've made it through Beg I and II, test your rhythmic skills in this class.  Syncopations are the basis for accenting and highlighting musical moments...it's a must for the intermediate wannabe.

7:00pm - 8:00pm WCS (Int) - Musicality 101
One of the best parts about WCS is it's ability to be musical.  We'll be using simple tools you can use immediately to make your dance work with the music.  After this class, you'll be able to start shaping your dance to the musical phrase.  It's the difference between the civilian and the professional.

8:00pm - 9:00pm WCS (int/adv) - Picturesque Moves
As some of you may know, I'm an avid dance photographer.  This workshop will feature patterns of movement that are perfect for onlookers, audiences and photographers.  We'll work on moves with long lines and eye-catching features.  Of course, WCS is not known as a flamboyant dance but that doesn't mean that it doesn't have to look exquisite.

9:00pm-12:30am WCS Party at Ludlow Recreation's Swing Dance Club
Music will be of the West Coast Swing variety: Blues, Swing, Pop and late-night groovy stuff.

Who is Erik Novoa:

Erik Novoa has been competing in West Coast Swing since 1998. In that time, he has risen to compete in the Invitational division. He has placed top-10 at the US Open in the Classic Division three  times and has excelled in Strictly Swing and Jack & Jill competitions at numerous national events.  Erik is also an outstanding follower.  Anyone who has seen him follow in a Jack & Jack competition knows that there is nothing he can't (or won't) do. His 17-year background in ballet, jazz, modern, musical theater and tap is evident in his avant-garde routines, creative social dances, and expert teaching style.

Erik began developing the West Coast Swing (WCS), Hustle and Salsa communities in southern Connecticut in January 2006, offering regular weekly dance classes in Fairfield, Stamford and South Norwalk.  In his first year in business, Erik was recognized and selected as the editor's choice for the "Best Way To Get In Step" in Fairfield County's "2006 Best Of The Gold Coast" rankings.

Erik's former training in ballet, jazz, tap and musical theater enables him to teach in a style which is knowledgeable, clear and concise.  He is a featured instructor for many regional and national events because of his ability to get people dancing quickly using his humor, personality, style, rapport with students, and his solid knowledge of dance fundamentals and technique.  Students complete each workshop with a better understanding of the specific dance, overall dance technique and musicality.
